During term 3 students learnt so many ways that many cultures communicate and share stories in diverse ways throughout CBL.

We explored and answered ‘How do people communicate in diverse ways?’, ‘How are stories told?’, ‘Why do we tell stories?’, ‘How has technology changed the way we communicate?’. Students explored many different stories from different cultures and different forms of communication. After completing all our learning of Diversity throughout CBL this term, students had a challenge “Celebrate History through Storytelling”. Students used their prior knowledge and learning from the unit to think of problems that they could help fix.

Students came up with a range of different things and worked in small groups to achieve their solution, these included:

1. Many people don’t believe in or know Dreamtime stories. Students decided to share and retell a range of Dreamtime stories.
2. Many people don’t know symbols such as hieroglyphics. Students decided to retell a Dreamtime story using hieroglyphics.
3. Many people don’t know sign language. Students decided to retell a Dreamtime story using sign language.
4. Students don’t know many other historical stories and many people don’t know many of the stories that were explored in this unit. Students decided to visit the elderly home and share their stories with the elderly residents as well as hear some stories from them.

Throughout the solution process, students experienced success and faced some challenges. Students have reflected on their experiences and have made movies using Apps on the iPad including Adobe Voice, Book Creator and  iMovie.
