2B from ACPS have done a very good job at writing procedural texts in October. 2B have learnt a lot from their procedural texts. People have taught each other how to do things they didn’t know.
First we read A LOT of procedural texts in reading and we started to follow the procedures that we read! We learnt how to make an alphabet cat, a dinosaur spelling list and a friendship chain. We had to notice the features like the action verbs, adverbs, time connectives, method, aim, title and materials.
Secondly we had a procedural text that we had to put in order. We had to think about what went first and what went last. We knew what went first because we looked at the pictures and we used our prior knowledge. We also followed the structure of a procedural text to put our pictures in the right order.
Lastly we were able to write our own procedural texts in our books to teach someone how to do something they didn’t know. We had to think about our audience and who it was going to be for. Then we started to write our procedural text. Some people taught each other how to do the monkey bars, how to make a craft, how to get dressed and how to listen on the floor. Mrs Malloch taught us how to make a Hairy Harry!
We felt really happy and we learnt how to do some things we didn’t know how to do before. We liked learning about procedural texts because it was really fun and we learnt a lot!

2B had an incursion in the second Performing Arts room on Thursday 22nd of October at 9.30am.
Firstly we learnt about where our rubbish goes and about landfills. We learnt that the rubbish goes into landfills and it stays there forever! The soil gets poisoned and the animals die because there is no shelter, no food and there is no grass or trees for animals to live in because the soil is poisoned and plants can’t grow!
Secondly we learnt all about the 4R’s! These are Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink! Ryan and Ayan were shopping and had to make a choice to reduce the amount of rubbish we could make! They had to choose between a plastic bottle or a glass bottle. The better option was the glass bottle because it can be recycled forever but plastic can only be recycled 7 times!
Thirdly we learnt how important worms are to people, plants, animals and soil! Worms turn scraps into compost! Worms make juice for the garden and they are always recycling food scraps and making our soil healthy! We were able to hold a worm and we had to be very quiet when holding the worms. Did you know that worms have no eyes, they only use their senses to feel where they are. Some people thought the worms slimy and good for the environment!
The whole class liked the incursion because we got to hold worms and we learnt SO much about the environment! We had great great fun at the incursion!!!! 🙂

Welcome back to term 4!
The year is going very quickly and this is our last term together! We have so many things this term that we will be learning about and participating in!
The beginning of the term we will be participating in an incursion for CBL, this will be happening in week 3 on Thursday 22nd October.
Later on in the term there will be a curriculum day and a public holiday.
There may also be an end of year concert but the date and details are yet to be confirmed! I know students have been looking forward to the year 2 sleepover, this is happening towards the end of term! I hope no-one snores! 🙂
Reports will also be sent out the middle of December!
In class we will be doing SO MUCH learning!
Reading we will continue to look at comprehension and many other CAFE strategies. We will continue to expand our vocabulary and learn so many more new words to use in our speaking and writing! We will also be reading a range of different texts for enjoyment and notice many different authors and illustrators.
In writing we will be looking at procedural and persuasive texts. We will also continue to use our Writer’s notebook so remember to bring in your seeds!
Throughout maths we will be learning about money, division, probability and other amazing topics!
Lastly our CBL topic for this term is ENVIRONMENT! We will be looking at what impacts our environment and how we effect the environment. This will be an interesting topic!
I can’t wait to get back to school and do many amazing things together!
Don’t forget that this term you will need your SunSmart hat to be safe from the sun! If you don’t have a SunSmart hat like the one in the picture, you will need to play in the undercover areas of the school.

What are you most excited about for this term? Why?
Mrs Malloch
During term 3 students learnt so many ways that many cultures communicate and share stories in diverse ways throughout CBL.
We explored and answered ‘How do people communicate in diverse ways?’, ‘How are stories told?’, ‘Why do we tell stories?’, ‘How has technology changed the way we communicate?’. Students explored many different stories from different cultures and different forms of communication. After completing all our learning of Diversity throughout CBL this term, students had a challenge “Celebrate History through Storytelling”. Students used their prior knowledge and learning from the unit to think of problems that they could help fix.
Students came up with a range of different things and worked in small groups to achieve their solution, these included:
- Many people don’t believe in or know Dreamtime stories. Students decided to share and retell a range of Dreamtime stories.
- Many people don’t know symbols such as hieroglyphics. Students decided to retell a Dreamtime story using hieroglyphics.
- Many people don’t know sign language. Students decided to retell a Dreamtime story using sign language.
- Students don’t know many other historical stories and many people don’t know many of the stories that were explored in this unit. Students decided to visit the elderly home and share their stories with the elderly residents as well as hear some stories from them.
Here is a completed video of one group retelling a Dreamtime story.
Here are some photos of students sharing their stories with the elderly residents:

Throughout the solution process, students experienced success and faced some challenges. Students have reflected on their experiences and have made movies using Apps on the iPad including Adobe Voice, Book Creator and iMovie.

In maths we have been learning about Multiplication. We learnt about ‘groups of’ and ‘repeated addition’.
First we learnt about repeated addition. Repeated addition is one number over and over again and again.
Secondly we learnt about groups of. 3 groups of 2 is when you have 3 groups and 2 in each group which makes 6 altogether.
Lastly we learnt about arrays and the turn around. The array is when you have groups and columns. The turn around is when you swap the numbers around.
We had heaps of fun doing multiplication!
Check out some of our work!

In week 4, 2B have been learning about retelling in reading at Aitken Creek Primary School.
First we made a retell rope. It had the ‘Title’ and ‘Author’, ‘Setting’, ‘Characters’, ‘Beginning’, ‘Problem’, ‘Solution’, and ‘Ending’. We used sticky tape, string and scissors to put our retelling rope together.
Secondly we stuck our retelling rope to our book boxes and we read to a partner and used our retelling ropes to tell our partner what the story was about.
Thirdly we swapped books to see if our partner was correct in retelling their story.
We enjoyed making our retelling ropes because it was fun cutting and sticking things together and we learnt how to retell a story in a shorter way!
On Wednesday 12th August we will be having a No Pens Wednesday!
This means that we will not be doing any writing at all! Instead we will be using our body language, actions and words to complete fun speaking and listening tasks!
On the day we can also dress up as an adjective (describing word)!
Here is a poster we made together for parents to see!

2B have been learning about Time in their classroom during term 3.
First we made slim analogue clocks for us to make time. We have learnt about o’clock, half past times and some of us know our quarter times.
Secondly we made a wide ASTOUNDING human clock by getting sticky notes and writing the numbers from 1 to 12. Mrs Malloch said a time to make and she chose 2 people to make the time. The people made the time, one person had to sit up for the hour hand and the other person had to lie down for the minute hand.
Lastly we learnt about digital clocks. We had to make some times on the analogue clocks and then we wrote the time in numbers which is digital time. Some of us used Book Creator or Pic Collage to show our work.
We really liked learning about time because…
- I didn’t know how to read or make time and now I know. (Gunny)
- I learnt how to tell my half past time and I’m feeling happy about this (Montana)
- I used to not know how to read the time (Jack)
- I didn’t know what half past was but now I know because I was paying attention (Khayahn)

Welcome back to term 3!
The year is going very quickly and we have so many things this term that we will be learning about and participating in!
The beginning of the term is quit hectic already, we have a performing arts incursion happening on Monday the 20th of July. During that week we will also be attending the first ever book fair at our school! It’s going to be very exciting.
We will be rehearsing for the Beauty and the Beast Musical that is being held on Thursday 30th July, Miss Greco and Mrs Cotter have put in a lot of work to organise the musical- it’s going to be AMAZING!
Later on in the term we will be celebrating Literacy and Numeracy Week!
In class we will be doing SO MUCH learning!
Reading we will be looking closely at comprehension and many other CAFE strategies. We will continue to expand our vocabulary and learn so many more new words to use in our speaking and writing! See if you can spot any new words we use this term!
In writing we will be looking at narratives and some letter writing. Students are going to also undertake Writer’s notebook writing, so remember to bring in your seeds!
Throughout maths we will be learning about telling time, multiplication, shapes and other amazing topics! Maths this term is going to be EPIC!
Lastly our CBL topic for this term is DIVERSITY! We will be looking at storytelling in diverse ways! This will be an interesting topic!
I can’t wait to get back to school and teach and learn these amazing things!
What are you most excited about for this term?

After completing all our learning of Survival throughout CBL this term, students had a challenge “Help an animal survive”. Students used their prior knowledge and learning from the unit to think of problems in the environment that they could help fix.
Students came up with 3 different things and worked in small groups to achieve their solution, these included:
- There is too much litter in the school yard and birds are eating the litter. Students decided that they will make bird seed bells to feed the birds.
- There are no butterflies and bees in our environment as there are no suitable habitats for these insects. Students decided to plant flowers to provide habitats for butterflies and bees.
- There are worms getting squashed on the oval which is resulting to animals dying and that there is not enough food for the worms. Students decided to make a worm farm to help worms survive by providing a home and collecting food scraps.
Throughout the solution process, students experienced success and faced some challenges. Students have reflected on their experiences and have made movies using Apps on the iPad including Adobe Voice, Book Creator and iMovie.
